Nearly 1 in 2 Americans has a chronic condition which equals 133 million Americans. By 2020, about 157 million Americans will be afflicted by chronic illnesses. Sixty percent are between the ages of 18 and 64. Misunderstanding is still attached to those afflicted.

“Be Your Art, Not Your Condition” is a compelling and insightful documentary by Writer/Director Jazzmyn Banks that seeks to create a greater understanding of what it is like to suffer from chronic illness as-well-as to educate the public as to the identities and trials of sufferers. The film also follows the journey from the viewpoint of those in the medical field as well as those who try to bring creativity and joy into the lives of patients who are suffering. How people should be their art not their condition.

This film will speak to an audience greater than the subject matter because all people have their challenges. A person’s passion can be their driving force and salvation as well as be inspiration for others to conquer their obstacles. Why the arts are important for all and should not be removed from the school system as they have the capacity to motivate, heal and shape the world. No matter if a person’s condition is that of their surrounding or of their own body, the arts have proven to make a difference between living and just breathing.

This documentary features the story of many individuals and the invisibility of their conditions. How a creative outlet and inspiration has transformed their lives. How their loved one’s manage being on the other side of a chronic condition. How they have pursued goals despite what they must deal with on a daily basis. How Hope Heals.

Our goal is to have a quality documentary that is shot on the Canon 7D and the Sony EX. We are currently in production and really need financial support to help with the cost of production and post-production. These funds will also help us to cover the subject matter to the extent we have envisioned.

Financial support and spreading the word will be very much appreciated!
